60 Years Of Service

How many of you have had the pleasure of viewing Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip? Back in 1976 the Queen and Prince visited from across the pond and a parade was held in their honor on Broadway in New York. My building where I worked many years ago happened to be on the very street known as the “Canyon Of Heroes” where ticker tape parades were celebrated since the first impromptu one was held in 1886 to dedicate the Statue of Liberty. Although this was not a ticker tape parade (the Giants will have one tomorrow to celebrate their exciting win last night, yeah!), nonetheless, thousands of people showed up to catch a glimpse of the Queen of England. It was an exciting fleeting moment and I was able to snap a photo with a camera that had black and white film in it.

Cheers to Queen Elizabeth II on her Diamond Jubilee. Her monarchy is the second longest in British history (only Queen Victoria reigned longer). Most of us were born during her incumbency (some of you during George VI), and I only assimilate her as the head of British Royalty since her reign began on February 6th 1952 (the day her father died). In the words of Sir Paul McCartney:

Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl,
but she doesn’t have a lot to say
Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl
Someday I’m going to make her mine, oh yeah,
Someday I’m going to make her mine.
