Consistency Or Persistency?

November 8th, 2011 | Exercise

What’s the difference between being consistent and being persistent?

con·sist·ent

agreeing or accordant; compatible; not self-contradictory: His views and actions are consistent.

per·sist·ent

persisting, especially in spite of opposition, obstacles, discouragement.persevering: a most annoyingly persistent young man.

This is my take on the definitions. If you are consistent you are going through the motions and are pretty much being routine and mechanical (not that there is anything wrong with that). On the other side of the spectrum being persistent is putting your whole effort and heart and soul into being consistent. You may think differently of the two definitions but my belief is that I should be persistent to attain my goals. You are probably tired of receiving my daily e-mail with my post, and I’m sure at times you delete it because you think I am that obstinate person who is determined to get my message out to you. Can you at least give me an A for effort? Do you find yourself sometimes glancing at my words in hopes that I did write a motivational word or two? My fellow Baby Boomers have I been persistent enough to at least put a smile on your face? My plan is not to be an annoyance but someone who wants to assist and help you get over your obstacles. I’m sorry if I appear as that pesky little gnat, but I do want to become a consistent force in your healthy and fit lifestyle. So when you have an opportunity to read my daily post, besides keeping me accountable for myself (maybe I’m being selfish in that respect) I’m hoping that I can jump-start you on your own way. Keep healthy and fit by remembering a quote by Albert Einstein “Reality is merely an illusion albeit a very persistent one”.
