"Fit As A Fiddle"
So lets get down to basics, I’m talking about that dreaded word I dare not say (so, I’ll say it softly-exercise). Yes, that foreign word (literally), which is defined as bodily or mental exertion, especially for the sake of training or improvement of health. See, that wasn’t so bad now was it? Oh well, I didn’t get to where I am today without this dastardly noun. What can I do or say to make it easy for you? You know you can’t shy away from it, even though it makes you cringe and get all sweaty just thinking about it. You know you have to incorporate it into your daily routine. Think of it as your spin cycle, (as in doing a load of laundry) it’s your last ditch effort to get your body cleansed while completing the rotation.
Yesterday on 2/12/11 I ran in my first organized race. It was called Cupid’s Chase 5k and it benefited the developmentally disabled people across the country. I loved every step, every meter, every mile (3.1) and want to enter future races (I must have been pierced by Cupid’s arrow because I am in love with running, well really jogging). I finished 429 out of 455. It was amazing to see my name in the online results page. Volunteers cheering and encouraging the runners, it was “totally awesome dude”. I was one of the oldest participants, however, I felt giddy and young (must have been the endorphins), while my daughter and her friend were applauding me at the finish line, it was great! What tremendous support I have. Do you have a supporter? Do you have someone that cheers for you! I want to be your supporter. If you can physically run, jog or walk for 3.1 miles, I say to you, go for it. With spring just around the corner, I am sure there are many races that will be available for you to partake in. If you need my help in finding one in your area let me assist you. What a great sense of accomplishment you will receive. What a great sense of hope you will feel for your future as a fit and healthy person. I almost wanted to wear a button or a badge yesterday that read, “Be kind to me today, I just ran a 5k” Keep fit and healthy!
