Boy I sure need some inspiration when it comes to activity these days. I enjoy watching celebrated races because I always want to go out and run after viewing these fine athletes strive to become their best. My guilty pleasure is to watch the Olympics and picture myself being awarded a medal for my extra-ordinary skills as an athlete. Actually, when I was a mere child watching the 1964 Tokyo Olympics I always dreamed of achieving a name for myself as an Olympian (what could be better back then?). Do you remember Don Schollander and the East German women (were they really men?) in the swimming pool? Who could forget Bob Hayes or Al Oerter in Track and Field? Ah yes October of ’64 where I probably watched every bit of television coverage that was available those many years ago. Picture this: turning 12, watching the Americans beat the Soviets in sport, and living in my new home with my Irish grandparents. Life was good back then for sure!
These days we can watch beach volleyball, fencing, horses jumping over gates and ponds, as well as white water kayaking. Now I usually cheer for the underdogs; those fine men and women who were told they couldn’t do it. Never give up on your dreams; nothing is impossible, go for the gold! Keep healthy and fit by just dreaming of being healthy and fit!
P.S. I’m sticking to my convictions and starting my regimen once again, and all it took was watching the Summer Olympics.
