Finish What You Started
For some time now I have promised Ed I would clean out (although 50% is his) a small room that has collected lots of stuff that we don’t need anymore. I do believe for me it has much to do with anxiety and “getting rid of” has taken on a new meaning for me. I was able to get rid of excess weight, but why do I become mentally attached (that I don’t even use anymore) to certain things? Is it letting go of the past, or is it worrying about the future? It could also be my inability to make decisions (which is one of my astrological signs characteristics, that of a Libra) There are about 200 vinyl albums, books, magazines, baseball caps, purses, (with lots of old receipts) old furniture and so on. I started my project on Monday by taking a charming older table (that was a family piece) and breathing new life into it, hoping that this table will fan the fire for my quest to finish what I started out to do. It has taken two days (with me exercising, running and performing daily routine chores) to finish the stripping and painting of this table. My first step is complete and I do believe I can continue this endeavor with a less heavy heart and more promise of freeing myself from my insecurities and move forward. Are you holding onto the past? Are you fearful of taking an action or liberating yourself? This as well as my lifestyle is an ongoing struggle and I will do all of my best to face my fears and achieve my goals. I’ll let you know how I am progressing with updates so stay tuned my friends. Keep healthy and fit by finishing what you started!

Joanie… How beautiful….
Aw thank you Nancy, have a wonderful day!!!!!
How nice. I started decluttering about 5 years ago and I can attest, it is a freeing activity. I cherish my uncluttered spaces now. It takes work, but can be done if you take it one step at a time like you are doing. A lot of my stuff finally left when both kids moved out :-)
I have a couple of sisters who in my opinion are hoarders/collectors but not the dirty kind you see on TV. Just lots of stuff. They can’t seem to have just one of anything–teapots for example–I have 2 and my sister has 25. It makes me uneasy when I visit their houses. Yesterday a study was published that shows you can lose weight better when you live in an uncluttered space.
It also makes me wonder every spring when I tackle the small storage area in the basement, just how stuff seems to multiply throughout the year. I’ve learned that donating, giving away and sometimes trashing “stuff” works for me. It’ll be a post idea for my blog one day.
Good luck in reusing and repurposing your treasures!
Oh, thanks so much Sandy for your words of encouragement and meaning. Would love to look at that article about clutter and weight loss. I have sisters as well who love to collect things and I fear it’s too much (I have to be careful because they read my blog). I know that it is a big step for me, but as you said one at a time and I’m on my way!
It looks great! Keep up the good work….one day at a time!!
Yup, I always say baby steps!
